40 Years and Still Kickin' It!

On a regular basis, Peter and I marvel at how few people our parents' age are still married. We count ourselves so blessed to have two strong couples from whom we can model our own relationship. Both sets of parents have now been married for 40 years. Since my parents live nearby, we were able to honor them with a reception in mid-June, at our house. It was a beautiful tapestry of friends and family from various spheres of their lives together. Many had known them for all or most of those 40 years, and some are new partners on their journey. My sister Meredith and I made games and decorations to highlight their favorite things (a trivia game, posters of pictures from their travels, a map marked with places they've visited together, a movie quote game featuring romantic comedies and baseball flicks). She and I dug up pictures that Peter skillfully wove into a DVD. We made a CD collection of songs that have been--and are--meaningful to them. Here's to 40 more, Mom and Dad!
